Location

The Federal Court Registry in Queensland is located in the Harry Gibbs Commonwealth Law Courts Building at 119 North Quay, Brisbane. The building is at the corner of North Quay and Tank Streets. The main pedestrian entrance is from Tank Street.

The public enquriy counter is located on level 6. This is where you will need to go to file documents and forms. Courtrooms 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are located on level 7. Court rooms 6, 7 and 8 are located on level 6. There are noticeboards on levels 6 and 7 which show the details of the cases which will be heard by the Court each day.

Hours

The public enquiry counter is open between 9:00am and 4:00pm. Telephone enquiries may be made between 8:30am and 5:00pm, except on weekends and public holidays.

The Court usually sits from 10:15am until 12:45pm and 2:15pm until 4:30pm. However, some court proceedings begin earlier so it is wise to check the Law List in The Courier Mail or on this website.

Transport and parking

The Registry is located within a short walk of Roma Street Railway Station. Buses from the city travel down George Street and stop between Turbot and Tank Streets.

Public car parks which can be accessed from Tank Street and Roma Street are only a short distance from the Court. Parking for people with disabilities, a loading zone and a taxi rank are all located in Tank Street, adjacent to the Court building.

Facilities

The court publishes a range of resources which provide information on the Court’s procedures including mediation, bankruptcy, human rights and witnesses. This information can also be found on this website. Some information is available in community languages.

The publications and court forms are available at the Registry counter. There is also a computer terminal which can be used to access court forms or search the Court’s database of cases. Court forms are also available on this website.

You should also approach the enquiry counter if you wish to search a Court file. A fee is payable for searching a court file and for obtaining copies of any filed documents.

There is wheelchair access to the Court from the Tank Street entrance.

Public toilets are located on levels 6, 7 and 8, including those for people with disabilities.

Court staff cannot provide child care. A number of child care centres operate in the city.

There are various cafes in the near vicinity along North Quay, George Street, Tank Street and Turbot Street.

The Commonwealth of Australia has a no smoking policy and smoking is not permitted anywhere inside the building.
