By proclamation dated 29 November 1989, the Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia declared that each State, the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory were to be Bankruptcy Districts for the purposes of the Bankruptcy Act 1966. The proclamation came into force on 1 March 1990.
Each District Registry will produce a local listing procedure and publish a local list for each city where bankruptcy sittings are held. The list will contain details of all bankruptcy matters returnable for hearing on a specified time, date and place. The list will also contain information as to the Judge (or Registrar) of the Court hearing the bankruptcy matters and the location of the courtroom where the hearing is to take place.
