Courts & Tribunals Administered by the Federal Court
The Court provides operational support for the Australian Competition Tribunal, Copyright Tribunal, Defence Force Discipline Appeal Tribunal. This support includes the provision of registry services to accept and process documents for tribunal proceedings, collect tribunal fees (where payable), list matters for hearing, and to otherwise assist in the management and determination of proceedings.
Up to December 1996, the Court also provided operational support for the Federal Police Disciplinary Tribunal.
As a consequence of the Workplace Relations and other Legislation Amendment Act 1996, the jurisdiction of the Industrial Relations Court of Australia was transferred to other Courts, mainly the Federal Court of Australia. On 25 May 1997 the staff and resources of the Industrial Relations Court of Australia were transferred to the Federal Court of Australia. Despite the transfer of jurisdiction, the Industrial Relations Court of Australia continues to exist at law until the last of its judges resigns or retires from office.
From 1 July 2012, the Court assumed responsibility for administering the National Native Title Tribunal.
