Jury Service: Attendance Fees and Travel Allowance
The fees and allowances are set under the Federal Court and Federal Circuit Court Regulation 2012. A copy of Schedule 2 of the Regulation, which sets out the current rates of fees and allowances, is below.
The fees are increased annually to keep pace with the Consumer Price Index (CPI). The last CPI increase occurred with effect from 1 July 2019.
A person who attend court for jury service, but is not selected on a jury, is entitled to claim an attendance fee.
The current rate* is $57.50 if the person is at court for up to 4 hours, or $115 if the person is at court for more than 4 hours.
The person may be entitled to an additional fee if they are required to attend court on more than one day.
A person who is selected on a jury is entitled to a fee for every day they attend court.
The current rate* for the first day is $57.50, if the person is at court for up to 4 hours, or $115, if the person is at court for more than 4 hours.
After the first day the current rate* is $115 per day, rising to $126 after 5 days, and to $139 after 10 days.
A juror may be entitled to an additional fee if the jury sits for more than 8 hours on the last day of the trial.
A person may be entitled to recover travel costs if they were required to travel more than 30km to attend court.
